In Greek mythology Echidna was known as the mother of monsters. Many of the great monsters of Greek myth were her children, among them Cerberus the three-headed dog who guarded Hades, the Gorgon, the Chimera, Ladon the serpent/dragon in the garden of the Hesperides and the Hydra that Hercules famously slew. Also apparently Scylla but not Charybdis. She had a beautiful woman's upper body and the lower body of a snake, and dwelled beneath the earth eating raw flesh.

Why the animal echidna was named after her is uncertain, but presumably it's because it has a strange appearance like different animals put together.

Daily Apexis quest (A) Assault on Lost Veil Anzu / (H) Assault on Lost Veil Anzu required.

As time goes on, the popularity of the quest area is getting lowered, but if you feel it's still overcrowded then it is recommended for you to doing this achievement on a day when this quest is NOT the daily Apexis quest, so you can do this any time you want. Simply buy and use Scouting Missive: Lost Veil Anzu on any off-day so - outside of rep grinding groups- you may be alone there. (Be careful, the missive item is consumed on use so if you abandon the missive quest, you'll need another item to start.)

If you have the said quest, as soon as you enter the area, a parasite sticks onto your head automatically and will fly away only when your quest progression reaches 100%. As you kill (and Consume) mobs, loot crates, recharge turrets, anything that can fill the progress bar your parasite evolves passively and sooner or later it will turn you into a Shadow Hulk or a Gluttonous Giant (ogre kills) for 3 minutes.

While in any of these forms, you should kill the mentioned rare mobs within Lost Veil Anzu. While morphed you should avoid killing other mobs because your progress bar fills in an accelerated way and upon reaching 100% your form will be removed instantly. If this happens you have to abandon and re-accept the quest from your garrison / Scouting Missive: Lost Veil Anzu.

Tip: Alternatively, you can stop gaining progression by creating a group in the Group Finder Tool and converting it to Raid. As long as you're in raid the progress bar won't grow any longer. Just make sure you leave "Auto Accept" checkbox un-ticked.

The Gluttonous Giant form operates mostly with mushrooms while in the Shadow Hulk form you have stuns and direct damage spells on your vehicle action bar. In most cases it's better not to use the Charge ability because it does relatively low damage to your rare target and also pulls other mobs into combat.

However, the real challenge of this achievement remains to find all those darned rare mobs around...

Patch 6.1.2 changes:

Morphed Sentient should no longer despawn while engaged in combat.
Players should now be able to complete the achievement while transformed into a Gluttonous Giant.

Known bug #1: Sometimes the parasite doesn't attach to your head while changing areas. This also happens sometimes when somebody leaves/joins the raid group - the parasite fly off but never returns. To make him appear again, simply relog or move out of Lost Veil Anzu and re-enter the area.
Known bug #2: Morphed Sentient appears to be heavily bugged. This mob is a Fen Strider lookalike, spawning next to the ogre area of Lost Veil Anzu. It always despawns a few seconds later, thus, making us unable to get credit for it.
Known bug #3: It seems the Gluttonous Giant form doesn't give credit for the acm, so make sure you're morphing into a Shadow Hulk. (thx Lightowner)

This is one of those very awesome "sarcasm" achievement from blizzard. I've completed the quest without transforming 3 times now. Not only that its hard enough to get the quest to transform and not bug out but you ALSO need to have the rare up, now i did get all the stars to align ONCE but then i accidentally killed too many mobs they kept re spawning so it completed the quest and thus I lost the transform before i killed the rate, doing this 5 times? screw that this will be one of my only few achievements that i will NOT have completed despite how easy it should be, unless blizz fix the damn transformation issue and make it so that one slap on a non elite mount wont make you finish the quest right away.

I've managed to get the transform 3 times. However, every time I get it I run to the rare mob, start killing it, and the transformation wears off before I can get it down. Looks like you need to bring friends for this as the transformation doesn't do enough DPS.

JUst killed shadow hulk, I was transformed, but didn't get credit.
Achievement seems to be bugged, because u don't get credit and ur octopus often despawns.

Yet another ' What the HELL were you thinking!' achi from blizz this expansion. The evolve mechanic from the daily is so buggy, and then it only lasts for 3 mins. Then once you've transformed once and failed, it seems like you can't transform again unless you abandon, leave and come back.
And they want us to kill rares that aren't up most of the time with terrible transforms that are too weak to kill them.

I can confirm, that you only get credit with Shadow Hulk. I just killed Giga Sentinel with Gluttonous Giant and got no credit, with Shadow Hulk I did.

Ok, so here's the story on this VERY buggy achievement, such as it is:

As with most Assault achieves, you must be on the Assault quest to do any of this, so pickup a handful of Scouting Missive: Lost Veil Anzu items from your Garrison vendor so you can freely abandon and re-acquire the quest, regardless of what's up for the daily.
When you enter the area with the quest you get a debuff and emote telling you the parasite has attached.
You transform by killing the mobs in the area while you have the debuff, looting them and then clicking each corpse a second time to consume it. After consuming FIVE mobs of one type (goblin or ogre) you transform for 3 minutes - consuming goblins makes you a Shadow Hulk and consuming ogres makes you a Gluttonous Giant.
Quest progress goes very fast while transformed and if it reaches 100 you will immediately lose the transform, possibly spoiling your attempt on a rare. It's VERY easy for that to happen because kills while transformed give extra credit and it's quite difficult to kill the rares without aggroing a handful of non-elites. The best way to prevent this problem is to be in a raid group the entire time, which freezes your quest progress, but allows everything else relevant to the achievement.
Anytime your group changes in any way (eg a player leaving or joining group), your parasite has a high chance to flee and return, which resets your progress towards five consumes. This is probably a bug. Make sure your group is not changing while working on this. If you lose your parasite you will sometimes need to run out of the area (south end by the ocean) and then back in.
You ONLY get achievement credit for rare kills while transformed into a Shadow Hulk, NOT while a Gluttonous Giant. This is probably a bug. So only consume the goblin mobs on the northern end of the area.
The Morphed Sentient rare required also appears to be bugged and either never spawns or instantly vanishes when he does. This means the achievement is probably unobtainable until they fix him or remove that criteria. This bug confirmed FIXED as of 3/23/15 hotfix
The Gluttonous Giant vehicle has rather low single-target dps, so it's easier to use the Shadow Hulk for the kills required by this achievement. Note it's possible to pull the rare and get it to low health BEFORE consuming your fifth mob and transforming (which starts the 3 minute timer).
Make sure to right-click the rare while dpsing with your transform, as the auto-attack swing damage is significant.

Be prepared to spend awhile on this frustrating achievement.

Simply do this:

1- Create any premade and do not accept anybody, turn it into a RAID. (edit often this way you won't get afk)
2- Take your squid at south shore , north is bugged ( you need to see yellow messages first)
3- Kill and consume 4 goblins then wait at the rare spawn position.
4- Get the rare at 50% then consume a corpse to complete transformation
5- Kill the rare= spam buton:431

Explanation (after much frustrations and raging at this one for 4 hrs)

- Raid makes the blue bar progression to stop.
- South squids will get you you the progression you need to be evolve, you need to consume more goblins then orgre: 3G2O, 4G1O.
- 4th consume should get you a message that ends with "Mind" if not you are bugged and retake a squid at south do the kills over again. Or just count 4 consumed mobs. But to be safe better to reset your squid down south.
- You can kill and loot but don't consume or lose your squid if you are at 4 consume. Sometimes youll evole by killing too much mobs so my advice stealth somewhere (engineer shield)

Rare spawns between 15-25 min

I must add : I personaly hated this achievement from the very first 20 minutes and I hope you understand Blizzard that you are generating stress from players not doing beta testing prior to the release. This achievement is madness. Aint fun anymore. (Hated, hate, wanted this destroyed, ripped appart, etc..)

Finally they did debbug Morphed 2015-03-23 and went to try to kill the beast:

25 march 2015 ; kill shadow hulk and waited 2 hrs for a rare spawn... never got any ANY! Had the viel of anzu in my quest log for days... reseted twice = no spawns

26 march: kill for 5 hrs rares got 1 giga no morphed..

27march: Morphed was sitting .. waiting on me... this is ridiculous (about 30 hrs on this achievment/ 8 hrs when debugged. No ty Blizz)

Kudos to those who managed to kill a single rare. This achievement is terrible.
1) While transformed, your bar fills way too fast. Great for daily itself, terrible for achievement. You need to transform very quickly and you simply can't afford to kill anything while transformed.
2) While transformed, you basically have one ability with huge CD and it hits like wet noodle. you can't use stun ability because SEE FIRST. So not only you do very little damage to bosses, you simply don't have enough time to kill it before transformation fails!

After few very frustrated tries (purchased few scouting missives), I learned that there is no good way or time to do this achievement. They really need to lower the gain from transformation and increase the time of transformation.

Those 5 rares are on rotation 1 out 5, coz I never seen more then 1 spawn.
Also hoping other servers, I also couldn't notice more then 1.
And while I was farming reputation before here, it was only 1 spawning at a time, in interval maybe around 30m

Also really helpful is to talk to sergeant crowley and buy the daily for veil of anzu...so you dont have to wait til it pops....(not to mention there more than likely wont be anyone there competing for your rares if its not the current daily)

I suggest you download this addon to look for the rares, once you find a server with the rare up, get in combat with a mob (don't kill it) and leave the raid group (I did not get transformed while in a raid group since the mindbender kept flying away). You won't get zoned back to your server until you've left combat.

So now start killing 5 goblins and comsume them to get transformed into the Hulk and engage the rare. Why you want to wait to until you find a server with a rare up is because after a while you get thrown out of the Hulk and you never know when you find a rare, so it's best to start getting transformed after you find a rare.

I did it all except morphed sentinent.

rules:
- start south side, becouse sometimes parasita bugged
- transform when u eat 5th add
- if u want achie doit these:

1. Shadow Hulk: kill 4 GOBLIN, go to cave down Hulk hp 30%, eat ORC (i dont know what type add) transform and kill him.
(i think this is not bugged, so u can eat 5 orc)
2. Gluttonous Giant: kill 4 GOBLIN, giant hp when 30%, eat ORC ,transform and kill him.
3. Giga Sentinel: kill 4 GOBLIN, Sentinel hp when 30%, eat ORC ,transform and kill him.
4. Mecha Plunderer: kill 4 GOBLIN, scorpion hp when 30%, eat goblin ,transform and kill him.
5. Morphed Sentient: absolutely no idea... GM wrote than this rare not bugged, just "little tricky..."..i check device thing (near the spawn area), but i cant use. nothing info on net.... any idea?

I just completed this achievement this morning. All is working well now.
The Morphed Sentient spawned at 73.2 45.2 and didn't move that spot at all. I killed some ogres there, clicked their dead bodies and transformed. Then I attacked and killed the Morphed Sentient. It was pretty strong and almost killed me, it was a close call.

As per the March, 23rd, 2015 hotfixes both mutations now grant progress towards the achievement. Also, Morphed Sentient is no longer despawning as soon as it's engaged in combat. These hotfixes make the achievement obtainable, finally.

And a small tip regarding the achievement: since your progress bar fills very fast with kills that you make when you're mutated, join a Raid group (Group Finder Tool is your friend here) to avoid completion of the quest and therefore losing the mutation. Group Finder Tool can also be used to hop Realms in order to find the necessary rares.

I recently did this achievement, and it's a frustrating one.

Only one rare can be up at a time, and the respawn time is exactly 20 minutes, there was no exception to this in the ~3 hours i spent there.

The Morphed Sentient rare now works like it should, and can be found in the swamp on the island in the middle.

I recommend consuming 4 mobs, DPSing the rare down to about 30% and then consume the last one and finish the rare off.

The Giga Sentinel self destructs at 20%, so make sure you transform before that point.

This achievement is not very hard, but it requires you to wait for the rares to spawn, and sometimes you'll see the same rares over and over again before the last one finally spawns.

Sometimes the parasite on your head will bug out, and won't transform you no matter how many mobs you consume. If this happens just run south out of the quest area, re-enter and it should work.

For the Shadow Hulk, i found only the first kill per day (when it still has the sliver rare border) can count toward the achevement, as it spawns on a different timer from the other quest rares.

Also the Hulk doesnt seem to reset its health pool when out of combat and enjoys killing itself by fighting the other mobs in the cave.

As a big achievement hunter who put this one off until bugs were fixed... tried this again today.

Still annoying but completed in <60 min.

Use custom group finder to realm hop to find the rares you need. Three in the southernmost area near ogres, one near goblins, one in the cave to the north.
When you've found one, kill five mobs as close together as you can, and kill things until the parasite is on you. (It still randomly leaves/is annoying). Quickly loot 5 bodies and right click their corpse when parasite is on you to get transformed, and then kill rare. Don't get frustrated here if the parasite leaves which resets you to 0 bodies clicked.

Terrible terrible absolutely terrible buggy piece of %^&* achivment. The parasite is bugged and keeps despawning every time and rares are just to rare, those pesky little squids aswell holy &*!@ those are so god damn annoying and I can't even consume them! Fu blizzard.

Here is a thing i notised today when i finaly got this achivement

The shadow hulk can spawn as an ordinary NPC and will then walk in the cave as a nps.
I have now killed him 6 time only the last time the Rare scan went of, and the shadow hulk was spawned at the lake in side the cave he don't move out of that lake so if you see one walking around when not in combat its the wrong one and you will not get credits for it when killing it.

It also seems a bit bugged up with the transformation part my tip here is if he is up get your transformation done at the spawn point of Mecha Plunderer then head to the cave.

To not get the Daily Apexis quest Assault on Lost Veil Anzu required completed before you get the rares down stay in raid you will get credit for the achievement but not for the quest it self.

For those of you who struggle with Shadow Hulk like me:
1. Only the one (with the skull) deeper in the cave (in the lake) counts toward the achievement.
2. It is a rare, not on the same timer/rotation as the others. One time I was camping it all day, other time it respawned in about 1 hour.
3. I suggest evolving into a Shadow Hulk yourself. I've tried many times as Gluttonous Giant, with no luck.
4. Either get help or minimize time from final evolution to slaying the rare. I've failed again and again with not much of the rare's health left just because the evolution buff expired.
5. I succeeded with using all abilities, but the idea is to down it quickly. I needed the stun ability, but your experience may wary.
6. Good luck.

You can server-hop to get four rares within short period of time (Shadow Hulk is unlucky exception)
But there are a few things to remember.
- Get into any auto-invite group and make sure it's set up to raid.
- If you see the rare go back to the borderline where you start the daily.
- Kill a pack of 4-5 ogres, DONT LOOT and re-enter the area
- Loot and Consume them. Four should give you the evolution shape.
- Rush toward the rare. GJ!

PS If you are in Garrison mix stuff group every new person restart your Parasite status. So if you kill ogres, leave a pile of them, consume within several seconds, and you have high chance not to be reset.
PS2 As for today I was able to get credit for the main area rares as a Gluttonous Giant.
PS3 To click a moss stone or an electric cylinder gives you another point step toward evolution shape.

I was able to finish this today and can confirm that it is still a huge pain, but here are some tips that helped me.

1. Do the quest on a non-daily day. Early morning is a great time to avoid competition for the rares.

2. The rares seem to share spawns meaning that only one will be up at a time-so if the one you want is not up make sure to kill the one that is up so that eventually the one you do need will spawn. The respawn time for the rares is roughly 20-30minutes.

-Server Hopping-

*If you are server hopping to find the rare you need this is important:
When you find the rare you need on another player's server go grab it-just aggro it, but do not kill it. While the rare is attacking you, leave the group you joined-this will keep you phased to where the rare is, but you won't have to worry about the stupid buggy mind control add flying off your head and screwing everything up!

*If you do not leave the premade/cross-server group, every time that a new player joins or leaves the group, that little mind control bastard (the one that lets you consume enemies to transform) will fly off your head and reset the whole thing.

Now all you have to do is kill and consume 5 adds. Most level 100s will have zero problem with this-just tank the rare while you kill and consume one add at a time until you transform. To make it go even smoother, bring the rare down to 50% or less before transforming. Good Luck!

It took me a few hours, but I finally completed this achieve yesterday; and, having completed all the WoD quest achieves so far, I can say with certainty that this one is the most ANNOYING:

1.) I can confirm that the achieve is still bugged: if you realm hop into a raid group, the parasite WILL frequently attach and detach itself from your head as new members join and old members leave the group. It has been suggested that a possible work-around to this problem would be to aggro the rare, exit the raid group, and tank while you simultaneously kill and consume the five mobs needed to evolve. THIS DID NOT WORK FOR ME. Immediately after I aggroed the Mecha Plunderer, I exited the raid group and the parasite detached, never to return, which meant that I had to drop aggro and phase out of the realm where the rare was up. ANNOYING.

My suggestion (especially for casters--my main is a Demo/Destro Lock--) is to just try to kill five mobs close enough to each other, so that, when the parasite is attached, you can quickly consume and evolve. (NOTE: DO NOT exit a raid group while evolved. I made the mistake of thinking that it was safe to do so on my second attempt at downing the aforementioned Mecha Plunderer, and I instantly lost my evolved form. ANNOYING. ) Once you are evolved, just head toward the rare as fast as you can and start keyboard mashing before the 3 min. timer for evolve ends.

The only rare that will give you problems is the Shadow Hulk, because of his interrupts. Make life easier and just recruit a guildie or friend to burn him down while you're in evolved form. He's the only one I didn't realm hop for because he's so ANNOYING.

2.) I can confirm that realm hopping is the fastest way to get this achieve despite all the buggy setbacks. Other commentators have mentioned buying a bunch of Scouting Missives and killing each rare one-by-one with the hope that the same rare doesn't repeat. DO NOT DEPEND ON RNG (I downed the Shadow Hulk on my realm three times, only to have him spawn again all three times). Just realm hop. I only spent 400 garry resources on two Scouting Missives for all five rares.

TLDR on Shadow Hulk:

Wait until he spawns on your server.

Recruit a friend or random to join.

Convert to raid.

Kill goblins to transform. Rush into the cave and chain stun.

2 people can easily kill it in the time limit.

Let me first start that even after some fixes, this is by far one of the worst achievements I have ever attempted. Now I've just completed this achievement in about 1 hour and a half by buying a few scout missive: Lost veil of Anzu to make sure I dn't have to go back to my garrison if i complete the quest. worst thing about it is that only 1 rare can be up at a given time. after several attempts on Shadow Hulk (Worst one for me. the transformation never lasted before i killed it) none of the others spawned, But then I noticed after I had killed Shadow Hulk while transformed ( Transformation irrelevant) another one spawned approximately 15mins later and then I killed that one and another spawned more or less the same time that one spawned after shadow hulk. My advice to everyone is realm hopping and check if the rares u need are up and then leaving grp > kill and consume 4 goblins/ogres and then join that grp AFTER you consume the 5th corpse to complete your transformation. Anyway I wish everyone else the best of luck and if you're the type of person that gets frustrated easily than I don't suggest even attempting this one.

P.S Listing yourself on premade groups and converting to raid will save you the trouble of worrying about your progress bar going to 100% and also you can run out of the veil and in to reset the transformation or get the squid or whatever it's name to reattach itself on your head if u have lost it

Don't know if this is noted. Yes only one of these rares can be up at a time but it is completely random which one will spawn. I have gotten Shadow Hulk 3 times in a row, followed by the Morphed Sentient 4 times, Mecha Plunderer, and then Shadow Hulk again.

After getting this achievement yesterday, I can safely say slow but steady is the key here.

The rares are up one at a time, and if it is the daily for that day, you have to be extremely lucky to come across one while transmorphed, with the possible exception of the shadow hulk, who tends to be forgotten.

I tried cross realm, as that tends to make achievements much easier, but that resulted in fairly big problems with the mechanic (the parasite wouldn't stick), so instead, once a day, i would fly over there and check the rare. If a rare is up that you don't want, kill it, and come back maybe an hour/hour and a half later to see if there was a respawn. The items to get the daily are fairly cheap, but you can form a raid group to prevent progress if you do not want to reget the daily every two rares or so. Don't panic when that last rare you need is up, the place is so out of the way that barring other achievementhunters and the rare rep group, you'll be alone with your parasite.

The parasite 'talks' or whispers to you if it is properly attached. If you kill 3ish creatures and or consume something and not get a whisper, run back out of the zone and back in to fix it.

So here are my thoughts of this difficult achievement:

First, this achievement is difficult to complete when the daily apexis quest for the specific area is present because many people kill the rare mobs without giving others who wants to complete the achievement a chance to evolve and kill the rares.

Doing this on any other day, purchasing a Scouting Missive: Lost Veil Anzu, eases up the progression.

---

Here are some things to keep in mind:
- The easiest way to do this is to list a group in Premade Groups Tool and invite a random player, form a raid grp and remove the player again. This way the progression of the daily quest will not take place as you are in a raid grp.
- Even if you have already killed a rare mob and it's not the one you need progress on, it WILL count in progression towards completion of the daily quest, if you're not in a raid grp.
- From my experience and other comments on this post and all of the rares specific posts, they share a 15-25 minute respawn timer each. Only one rare mob will be present at any time. From my observations they spawn at a random cycle.
- You can log out at any time and return to check up on spawn locations. If the Amorphic Cognitor disappears when you log in you can run South towards the sea and OUT of the area. You have to exit the area so the progress bar disappears to reset the Amorphic Cognitor when you enter again - and just to point out: when running out of the area, the gained progress will be saved.

- The first rare I killed was Mecha Plunderer - it's surrounded by a lot of Goblins. I killed three Goblins, consumed thier corpses and went for the fourth one but accidently pulled 7-8 Goblins AND the Mecha Plunderer. I managed to consume the last two corpses under fire and killed the rare.

- The second rare I killed was Gluttonous Giant - it's cornered and was quite difficult as its abilites hit quite hard. A lot of Befuddled Relic-Seeker, Befuddled Skullcrusher and Amorphic Cognitor (several IDs for this mob) are present and and respawn fast. I managed after all to evolve into Gluttonous Giant and kill it.

- The third rare I killed was Giga Sentinel - it's on a plateau-like area with an orb near it. Several Bluewater Clawcaster are present and pulling one will aggro a group of five. I reckon that three groups are present. This fight was rather easy although I evolved too early. I did manage to kill it fast enough before the end of evolve but it did self destruct - I was awarded the kill anyway.

- The fourth rare I killed was Morphed Sentient - it spawns on the small Island in the middle of the open, flooded area before exiting Southwards. Some Befuddled Relic-Seeker and Amorphic Cognitor roams around its spawn point. Again, I miscounted the consumed corpses and evolved way to early but again I managed to kill it. This rare hits fairly hard but when evovled, it should not be a problem.

- The fifth and final rare I killed was Shadow Hulk - it's located in the cave to the North of the valley. There's a twist about this rare, though. Shadow Hulk/Shadow Hulk are also present and does NOT count towards this achievement. The "fake" one will be moving around, the real does not.
The Shadow Hulk is standing in the middle of the large cave with the plateu in the middle.
Enter the cave, run Down the right passage and you'll find it there.

Thanks for all the guidance here - I did this today using the advice given here. Relatively smooth.

I stocked up on the Scouting Missive: Lost Veil Anzu, made a raid with myself (using the LFG tool as described in other comments) and started getting a transformation near one of the rare spawn points. As soon as I had transformed, I used the Cross Realm Assist addon to quickly browse through several servers and were lucky to find one relatively quick where the rare was up, and there was plenty of time to kill it before the transformation wore off.

I used both the Shadow Hulk and the Gluttonous Giant (depending on the mob type closest to the spawn point) and they were both effective in killing the rare in time. For the Hulk, use 4-3-1 in that priority. For the Giant, spam 1 and use 2 followed by 3 when they are up. Use 4 when off CD.

While attempting to camp out this achievement, I confirmed that only one of the creatures is up at a time and respawn is 20 minutes. There is no set rotation, as any of the 5 will spawn randomly. However, it may not always be a "rare" form. You must clear the fakes (as they have been referred to in previous posts) in order to initiate the timer for the next one to spawn.

As I could not find npc IDs for the fakes, I simply created a target macro for all 5 creatures, since rare or fake share the same name.

In case you are unfortunate enough like me to be camping these to get the last one - if you use your garrison hearthstone immediately after killing one you don't need... you will have a perfect spawn timer as the cd on your hearthstone is also 20 mins.

Going into the cave seems to permanently halt your Amorphic Cognitor's evolution. The same thing can happen on the Giga Sentinal platform. Exit the apexis area southwards and get a new Amorphic Cognitor. Hopefully that does the trick.

Just started trying this achievement seeing if it was easier after 6.2.
On first day only saw Gluttonous Giant and was a real pain to kill as a monster, didnt try to keep killing it after monster effect wore off.
Waited around for about an hour and no new spawns came up Killed it fairly easily as giant with 1 min to spare on timer to lose effet, just spam all abilities as they come up.

Second day: Giga Sentinel was up. Tried killing him as giant and after a few goes succeeded. Waited around 30 mins and no new spawns.

Third day: Mecha Plunderer was up. Ate 4 goblins, killed a load around Mecha and beat him down to 30%, then ate last goblin and killed Mecha. Didnt bother to wait around to see any more spawns.

(Note: Each day used a missive and it was not on daily for alliance and I dont think it was daily for horde either.)

~~So at the moment I am led to believe that on a single realm only one rare will spawn.~~

Retested respawn timer after seeing other comments and 20 mins seems to be accurate atm. Havnt gone through a complete cycle of rares yet so not sure why I couldn't find one before after 20 mins, maybe it was just same one again and so didn't look for it.

The Shadow Hulk is a the worst one to kill. ~~Havnt been able to down him solo and if you don't change to raid you will often kill so many mobs that you finish quest.~~ Only tried to kill mobs outside cave to transform as the eating process seems very buggy inside cave. So best to bring a friend if you want this one easier.
Just killed Shadow Hulk solo using goblins outside to transform, after transforming run as fast as you can to cave. I went north into small drop where the apexis quest item is and dropped down there - to east where Shadow Hulk is you can see him through small cave, go and pull him, try to avoid pulling any other adds and pull him back into cave, there spam all abilities as they come up. Make sure to reset auto strike on him and ensure you are facing him. Killed him with 30 seconds remaining on buff.
This was also second kill of the day on Shadow Hulk, he was no longer a rare to me, but he did count to achievement. Note that this was the rare as it was in same position.
Before that try I went through cave seeing if anything worked to transform you into monster. Nothing did. Tried eating things in and out of combat.
Also tested comment that he doesnt reset health. This was not true. He did reset. I guess if he went into combat with something while you were beating on him then he may not reset.

Also tested getting the head hugger back, and found that flying to east was just as good as flying south - and quicker too. Often appear that I had a head hugger on me, and animations looked as though he was consuming things, the consume things to transform text comes up BUT no other text comes up to show that you are changing. SO if you are eating things, looting etc and no text comes up to say that you are transforming, then you need to fly out and get new buff. As soon as you do this then you will see text again.

If you are in the cave and you aren't either don't have the brain sucker or you aren't getting evolved (you should get a notice about it grabbing your brainstem or something after 2 consumes), then you can log out and back in. As long as nobody joins or leaves the group/raid, you should be fine. Getting Shadow Hulk to low health before you evolve will also help with his stun / your limited evolution time. GL

Just did this achievement and found the rare Morphed Sentinel..........Sept 19, 2015

Preparation: Go into LFG custom make a raid, set it as raid, do not invite people and don' t have auto invite on. Your doing this to stall the progress on the quest, you can kill mobs, collect loot and even evolve - transform. Once your ready for the rare you need remove yourself from the raid and the progress bar will be active and getting credit on killing the rare counts towards the achieve.

On to doing the achievement: You have to kill all the rares on this list to start a sequence of spawns, so lets say Shadow Hulk is up kill it and in 20 minutes another rare will spawn. Continue this until you get the rare your after and specifically Morphing Sentinel.

Rare up now what? Start clearing the area around the rare so you can evolve and have less mobs up to make this a headache if you can' t kill this rare fast enough with the Glutenous Giant. You can use the Shadow Hulk but requires some traveling from the Mecha Plunderer area and avoiding mobs. I used the Glutenous Giant and killed the rare under 2 of the 3 minutes your evolved.

Another option that works: I did this as a hunter a second time, so using a pet will work.I cleared area until I was about 2 more mobs from evolving and put my pet on the rare, once rare was at 70% I also evolved and used the 4 buttons the Glutenous Giant has to kill the rare. So if your a class with a pet this will work, don' t use a garrison bodyguard.

I joined the website for this specific achievement and rare, as the information on the internet did not help much until I pieced together my theory that worked as I described here. I will continue to help with strategies on situations in Warcraft as they come up for me where current information is not available or can be done differently and efficiently.

If you don't want to have to wait a billion years for these to all spawn you can take advantage of server hopping. It is very annoying because the parasite leaves your head whenever someone joins a group so this is how you can manage it.

Hop custom groups (pulling you onto other realms) until you find one where the rare you want to kill is up.
Kill 5 or so mobs in the area by the rare (enough to full transform you) but DONT consume yet.
Tag the rare
Drop group
You are now stuck on the other realm out of group while you are in combat
Chances are your parasite isn't on your head though.
Invite a guildy or friend that is willing to sit in the group with you (this should trigger the parasite to rejoin your head).
Make it a raid to avoid progress on the quest area
Consume the dead mobs near you to transform
Kill the rare

Good luck (took me probably 1 hr with this tactic to get all 5)

Started on this achievement today and it's tedious to say the least.

My notes on it:

You cannot get transformed while in a raid group.

You can "save" quest progress by at least making an LFG-raid group by yourself (as explained in other posts) before killing the rare so that you don't get quest progress from it. Achievement still registers in raid group.

Two times in a row now when Shadow Hulk is spawned, i try to consume goblins outside, while in a raid group so I dont finish the mission, and the consume doesn't count and I don't transform. Doing this has worked for all the other mobs, just not with Shadow Hulk

Guide for this achievement:
1. Take quest for Lost Veil Anzu (either garrison daily or Scouting Missive: Lost Veil Anzu)
2. Fly on the questing spot, you should now see a parasyte debuff.
3. You will only see this debuff while your quest bar isn't full. If you fill it completely you will have to take quest again. There's a way to prevent it. Ask your friend, guildmate or anyone in LFG channel to form a raid with you. Killing mobs won't fill progress bar when you're in raid. If you loose your parasyte debuff then fly to the coast (out of the questing zone) and then hop back in.
4. Choose a rare to hunt, remember it's spawn location (doesn't matter if rare isn't there) and farm for the evolution.
5. Once evolution is up start changing realms. I used Server Hop addon.
6. If you couldn't find a rare in time just continue hopping, once you meet a rare hop once more and addon will remember last server. Then go back to your realm, invite a friend, farm your mutation and hop to a server where you've met a rare.
7. Repeat until you killed all rares.

The only issue I had was the bug with the parasite not evolving you periodically. Leaving the area to the south and coming back in, may it be once or a few times, does the trick.

If you can't find any rares check the Shadow Hulk in the cave to the north of this event, as it appears to not be part of the area, when in fact it actually is. After checking there I noticed he was up, fixed my evolve issue, and got the progress on it no problem.

I just wanted to add my comments as I have not seen any recent posts on this.

I completed King of the Monsters today with Shadow Hulk and Morphed Sentient. As per the posts noted here I used the Group Finder tool and found it very helpful.

1. Got a Lost Veil Anzu Missive, popped it. Went to the zone.
2. Created a Group in H>Dungeons & Raids>Premade Groups>Custom>Start A Group>Raids-Legacy>Name It Anything>List Group. Ensure Auto-accept is UNTICKED (as the little squid on your head leaves and rejoins everytime a player joins your group).
3. Converted it to Raid by right clicking on my Characters Picture.
4. Mounted up and flew low back and forth between where the Morphed Sentient spawns and where the Shadow Hulk spawns for a total of 3 hours. If I found any rare I killed it as it seems only 1 rare will be up at a time and each time a rare is killed there is a 20-25 minute spawn timer between them. So to keep the waiting time down to only 20-25 minutes between rares if one appears kill it to let the next one spawn, although the order they spawn is completely random. I did have 2 Morphed Sentients spawn one after eachother.

5. Morphed Sentient spawned - killed all adds beside it, eat them, transformed, killed Morphed Sentient. This one is very easy to kill regardless of which you get Transformed into.

6. Eventually (after killing all rares in zone and waiting for about 3 hours the Shadow Hulk spawned. I killed some adds near it and ate/consumed 4 of them. Note I did not Transform before attacking Shadow Hulk.
7. Attacked Shadow Hulk in Normal form and brought it down to 25% health. Then I pulled some more adds, killed the adds, stun Shadow Hulk, ate/consumed the add corpses quickly while Shadow Hulk was stunned, killed Shadow Hulk.

Note my Premade Group in Group Finder actually expired due to inactivity while fighting the Shadow Hulk and while I was Transformed. I had a heart attack when the message popped up that my Group was inactive as the Shadow Hulk was at 10% health, the Squid then left my head. Fortunately even without the squid on your head if you are transformed, you stay transformed with or without the squid.

Achievement earned, happy Protection Pally as that one was bugging me for a long time.

As the other 3 Monsters will spawn while you are waiting for Shadow Hulk and Morphed Sentient, this would basically be a good way to do the whole achievement and you may have more luck than I did and get them all in under 3 hours.

It took me hours to complete this achievement, and at one point I just about destroyed my keyboard out of anger!

After reading the comments on here I figured out a few things that helped me get it done:

1: Form a raid group using the Group Finder tool in order to freeze the quest progress bar. Its best if its just you in the group as any other players who join or leave the raid group can bug out the Amorphic Cognitor debuff, essentially leading to you losing the debuff and having to leave and re-enter the quest area in order to get it back.

2. Once I found a rare spawn, I damaged it down to about 50% in my normal form as well as killing the trash surrounding it, I then consumed the mobs until I transformed - this allowed me to reduce the amount of time it takes to kill the rare spawn and limit trash interfering with my kill.

3. If my rare spawn wasn't up I would kill one of the other ones if I saw them, another rare will spawn between 16-20 minutes after killing a rare. I wasn't able to figure out if there was a spawn order or if it was random. Note: If you've killed the rare already that day it might appear as a non-rare, I believe you need to kill it still in order to keep the spawn rotation going.

4. Have lots of patience, its going to take some time. Its best done on off peak times. Expect bugs with chain aggro on trash mobs, expect it to get a little -to- very frustrating. You'll get it eventually!

the most annoying thing that the parasite gets bugged sometimes, and even tho it says its on your head, and you can consume corpses, the mutation WON'T TRIGGER.

adding this to the fact that you have to wait for the rares to pop, and only after that should you mutate, and PRAY that noone will kill the rare meanwhile -- this makes this one of THE MOST FRUSTRATING achievements.

To summarize the caveats about this achievement, why it sucks, and how to make the most of it:

1. Never be in a group that switches players in and out when you are in the process of entering a vehicle. It will drop the debuff, yes, it is bugged. Either be alone, or in a raid group that will never change a player in or out.

2. You can still kill a rare in such a players-changing group, if you first get the vehicle up, and then join that group

3. If it wasn't clear, realm hopping can help, but it can create a havoc if you haven't joined a vehicle yet

Other related caveats of lesser importance:

1. You must click the corpses after your loot them in order to gain the vehicles. That might be obvious from the text on the screen. But, because of the 1st caveats, you may not be seeing those at all and be confused, understandably. It's not your fault. The design of the quest is abysmal.

2. I heard a lot of calls of bugs concerning clicking the mobs in the north but I don't believe that true. It might give that idea though if you are hitting the problems of the 1st caveats. In general though the most convenient mobs are the Ogres to get the Giant and Gnomes to get the Hulk.

3. tl;dr: in and out of realm hopping to spot a rare, first kill rares near it and weaken it to make it easier (click them to transform) and, you can realm hop, after transforming.

Last but not least:

1. Make a raid group alone to never advance the progress of the area. Yes, it works. No, it does not bug anything related to this achievement.

2. Similarly, you can join a raid group of others but make sure you do not hit the caveat above about switching players in and out

3. You can combine a raid group of another realm with realm-hopping to both find a rare and not progress the area

I can confirm it's possible to evolve inside the cave, using the mobs around the Shadow Hulk, but it took me leaving and reentering the quest area a couple times before I was able to do that.

Of course, when evolution bugs out, in the meanwhile, someone will come and kill your rare mob.

After waiting for one week for the skull of the last boss to appear I must have learned that the skulls only appear on the minimap if you are on the quest (Missive: Assault on Lost Veil Anzu/Missive: Assault on Lost Veil Anzu) for the area. You can however see the rare bosses without the quest, they just don't appear on your minimap.

Unless it is the last achievement in the game you are missing, just skip this. Trust me. At the moment, this is one of the most frustrating achievements in the game. It bugs non-stop for no apparent reason. Once again - skip this now and wait till it is fixed.

You can use realm hopping. I had two strategies that each helped me get one of the five:

1 - Find a realm with a monster you need, drop the group and go back to your realm, kill stuff and consume bodies to get transformed, then go back to the realm with the monster. Stand right on the spawn location when switching realms to reduce adds for the fight. The risk here is that the realm you found the monster on will no longer be available after you transform.

2 - Find a realm with a monster you need, then wait for the group to stop accepting new people and settle to just the original group maker and yourself. This is feasible because premade group listings are buggy and drop at random all the time. You can also risk a little by attempting to transform when a few people are left. Or you can talk to the group maker and ask them to let you know when they're going to delist the group. The risk here is that you'll spend a lot of time waiting on a group only to get booted by the group maker before you get your monster.

I just finished the achievement today after a few weeks of work. It's way more trouble than it ought to be, but it's doable.

Forget realm hopping for this one, it's just not worth it.
Instead you should realize that this one can't be forced, you have to come back multiple times.
1. Do something else. Just use your garrison hearth every time you realize it is ready and come here and the timing works out to about the respawn of the mobs.
2. Kill every Rare no matter if you still need it or not. Only one of them will ever spawn, so you should kill all of them.
3. Use only the transformation from the goblins. The one from the ogres is absolute trash for this. The goblin one on the other hand has four abilities that are strong, have AoE, stun and most importantly allow you to move to the Rare quickly without pulling every other mob in the vicinity. Just use every ability once the CD is up and it's easy.
4. Don't realm hop. Every person joining the group or the raid will confuse the parasite, making it fly away or just bugged straight up. Instead create your own group and right click on your character, from there on "Raid".
That way you still get to not progress the quest.

Three of the rares are in the ogre area, one by the goblins and one in the cave in the north.

Something that hasn't been mentioned elsewhere: When you're in the Hulk suit, you can spam right-click on your opponent to do a basic melee attack while waiting for your abilities to pop back up. The first time I fought the Shadow Hulk, my suit wore off literally in the last second, and not only did I not get credit for the kill, my next auto-attack killed him and I had to wait till today for him to respawn! This time I spammed right-click on him between my abilities, and it made enough of a difference to get him down just in the nick of time.

Like everyone said elsewhere, this achievement is for the birds! I almost gave up on it. Shame on Blizz for having such a bugged out area in their final product!

If you're trying to do this achievement after 7.0, there seems to be a bug with actually transforming and properly consuming enemies to become a monster.

Basically if the little parasite isn't whispering to you, you're not going to transform, I was able to do it by dragging enemies to the southern part and killing/consuming them there.

Third time's the charm. After getting the bugged out non evolve for the last two tries tonight, finally was able to evolve.

Entered the mission area, killed an ogre, and then left the area and logged out. Logged back in, and ran on foot back into the mission area. When the Mission triggered, got the usual messages. Killed an ogre, consumed looted a mushroom pile, and then the next kill/harvest evolved into Gluttonous Giant.

After killing the Giga Sentinel (and getting Achieve credit) waited a bit, then ran to the goblins, killed one, consumed, used one of the mechanical things, then ran into the cave to the north.used one of the bird heads laying about, and got the second evolve.

Hope the method helps someone - no mount, no pets/companions and a bit of luck.

While completing the achievement on several characters in 7.0.3 I figured a reliable workaround for the bug with evolving:

Since it may take a bit of practice I recommend making a raid group (using LFG tool f.ex, but do not enable auto-invite!) so you will not finish the quest area before completing the achievement. However, upon making the raid group the parasite will detach from your head. To get him back on your head again zone out and then back in to Lost Veil Anzu while in the raid group.

Make sure you have the parasite attached to your head (you can zone out and in to make sure you have it, if you can't figure it out from the message flood in the chat)
Kill a few (3 is enough, but you can go for any number over 2) goblins or ogres depending on what you want to evolve into (goblins for the Brute and ogres for the Shroom Giant). You can kill any number of Amorphic Cognitors along the way.
Not sure how the evolution is determined if you kill both ogres and goblins, but from my experience you are not screwed either way, just kill several of the ones you want before proceeding to the next step.
Go to the cave with pale orcs in the far northern part of Lost Veil Anzu past the area with goblins.
Kill pale orcs and consume their corpses. You should see in the chat that the amorphic cognitor on your head now continues whispering you directions as you consume corpses and its control over you intesifies. After consuming several corpses (somewhere around 4 to 6) you'll evolve.

Troubleshooting:
If Amophic Cognitor didn't whisper you (light purple text with default chat settings) after you had consumed corpses in the step 5, then zone out of Lost Veil Anzu, get back in and try again from the step 1. That happened only once to me when I went straight into the cave without killing any goblins/ogres beforehand.

Other notes:

Transforming into the Brute (killing goblins) seems to be a significantly better choice while hunting for rares. Because of his high mobility you can easily reach the furthest rare spawns like Gluttonous Giant, Morphed Sentient and Giga Sentinel and still have enough time to kill them (assuming that you ignored all enemies attacking you along the way).
If you are struggling to get to the rare spawn before it is killed by other players (thanks to Lost Veil Anzu being a cross-realm zone) I recommend following the 20 minutes respawn timer carefully and evolving into the Brute in about a minute (but not earlier, or the evolved form might wear off before you kill the rare) before one of 5 rares respawns. You may end up with the wrong rare, of course, but players usually kill them too quickly to give you enough time to evolve right now during the legion pre-patch.

EDIT: P.S. It is still possible to evolve without all these complication, but you will often get stuck on a certain stage with the same message repeating over and over. At this point going into the cave with pale orcs and consuming corpses there allows you to continue the evolution process (but only if you got stuck outside of the cave in the first place).

This achievement is virtually impossible to be performed. It's a shame that even now things do not work. I gave up trying, my character simply does not transform, been in raid or not. I tried for about 4 hours to do this and NOTHING. Blizzard, fix it!

This bug is full of achievements, and this is how it worked for me after long hours of almost deleting my character (can´t believe they couldn´t fix this):

1.first of all, buy the scout missive: lost veil anzu at your garrison with sergeant crowler
2. go to lost veil anzu (spires of arak)
3.create a group finder and convert it to raid:
group finder (i)-premade groups-custom-list group (auto accept should be disabled) - click on your own portrait with right mouse button - convert to raid
->doing this you won´t gain any progress killing mobs around and won´t need to buy the scout missive several times.

it seems there´s some areas you can´t get evolved for some reason, so i found 2 points where i could evolve to shadow hulk and gluttonous giant (even if you want gluttonous, evolve to shadow hulk first (looks like that cave has some *unbug* magical power):

4. Evolving to shadow hulk: Go straight to the cave, entrance at (74,35 - follow the river to find it), go to the mid of the cave at 71,34. Kill everything in there, loot it and click again with right button to consume the corpses, also consume a mushroom called illuminated reality-twister (it´s blue), if you consume several mobs and dont evolve then it´s bugged, so leave lost veil anzu to (73,52 echidnean shelf) and come back to where you were.

5. Evolving to glutonous giant: go to 73,45 and kill like 4 ogres around, the 5º should be the ogre at 73,47 (up the plateau), always worked for me this way.

Now that you know how to evolve both forms, these are the coords of the monsters you will need to kill:
Giga Sentinel (72,45) beside the orb shinning like its burning with an apexis sentinel next to it
Morphed Sentlent (73,45) on the middle of lost veil anzu (looks like a little isle)
Gluttonous Giant (75,43) isolated near that broken wall
Mecha Plunderer (74,39) at the plateau full of goblins and amorph annihilator
Shadow Hulk (71,34) mid of the cave

Chose the form you want to evolve according to the distance from the monster you wanna kill, so you don't waste time walking long distances (you only have 3 minutes).

That´s all.

There are a lot of technical problems with this area, many of which are programming errors in the code for the quest. Below I will list the 2 steps I took to resolve the problems I experienced with the quest: 01. DO NOT use a garrison bodyguard during this quest. Having a garrison bodyguard places your character into a "group". When you transform and the bodyguard fades the number of "players" in the group changes which results in the Amorphic Cognitor debuff disappearing. This also occurs when a change in the number of actual players in an group decreases (and possibly increases) during this quest. 02. DO consume your first 5 corpses in the cave. This activates the transformation code and will allow you to transform after every five consecutive corpse consumptions. This is continues to be true even if you lose your first Amorphic Cognitor debuff, so you do not have to continue entering the cave the entire quest. With all of the programming workarounds out of the way, have fun and hopefully you will not find as much frustration in this achievement as other commenters have found. P.S. When not working on this achievement bring your garrison bodyguard back here as the short respawn timers of the mobs in the area enable for fast rep grinding, and you can also grind rep for the Arakkoa Outcasts as well.

just want to add to this. do the entire achievement while in a raid group. you can evolve while in a raid group and get no progress on the quest so you can stay there all day killing. i had to evolve 3 times while staying at 40% because i was having a hard time killing one rare in the 3 mins i was evolved. Now for another 20mins of farming Ogre Waystones.

I can confirm several things still work today:

1) Notes from: SpFxAnimator are still true and work.
2) Notes from: fybrazil are still true and work.

Things in simple quick form:
1- 20 min timer, drop the Garrison bodyguard
2- I have seen the same mob pop twice in a row, but never more than twice
3- Go to cave kill 5 consumable mobs, DONT CONSUME them
4- interacting/opening/using anything in this zone COUNTS as a CONSUME inside and outside a cave (including using Goblin items looted for electric zappers).
5- If you dont kill while morphed, u can kite, consume and remorph to kill
6- as long as u HIT the add and someone else kills it you STILL get credit
7- No faction tag matters (I did this with a horde druid not knowing this and we both needed the same last 2 mobs but didn't know each other)
8- To preserve the long bloody walk/flight to Garrison convert to a raid group AFTER the Cave killings mentioned in sub section 3. I did this before entering the cave and it glitched out and had to fly out the zone area of quest for it to reset.

**Avoid using electric zappers they can put you in combat making leaving combat extremely annoying

Been farming for hours, and I'm finally done... So far my advice and data suggest the following:
- Get the Assault on Lost Veil Anzu mission.
- Make a raid group in Group Finder, and make sure you won't get delisted for inactivity and remember to Convert to Raid each time
(this ensures you won't get any progress on the quest and won't have to buy several scouting missions)
- 1 rare can be up at a time
- Spawn timer is exactly 15 mins from last kill (as of 7.3.2), and the previous rare may spawn again

- (optional) Consume 4 mobs and kill a 5th mob close to where the rare spawns (i personally killed the goblins close to northern cave)
- (optional) Damage the rares a bit (30-50%) before you consume the 5th mob, and kill the rare while evolved for it to count towards the achievement (Soft Foam Sword doesn't work as this date).
- Shadow Hulk especially can be a pain due to the mobs getting pulled around him and his stun

I just killed Shadow Hulk. Started the ingame timer and after 15 minutes, Morphed Sentient spawned. After 15 minutes, Shadow Hulk spawned again. After another 15 minutes, Morphed Sentient spawned again.

It seems the respawn timer now is 15 minutes and yes, you can have the same rare spawn multiple times.

Also confirming you can get credit for this achievement while in a raid group.

EDIT: another 15 minutes and another shadow hulk.

Achievement is no longer bugged and the rares spawn exactly every 15 minutes.

To complete this achievement you will need to kill the five rares in the area while being "evolved". Evolve by killing and consuming mobs in the area. After consuming 5 mobs (can be done by right clicking the mob when its dead) you are guaranteed to evolve. Here is an image of where the rares required for the achievement spawn:

I suggest starting to consume the first 4 mobs 2-3 minutes before the 15 minute mark is up. When the rare spawns, simply damage him down to 30% and consume your final mob to evolve and kill him.

I failed a lot of times because i either damaged the rare too much or dotted him up and failed to consume the final mob. Be aware that taking damage interrupts "consume" so stunning the rare is a good idea. I took off my artifact weapon and some of my gear to not one shot him.

With all the changes since 6.x.x, this particular achieve has become a lot less painful, but it is still time consuming.

Notes beyond what's already been posted:
-Unequip anything that does dots or aoe damage. Especially the artifact weapon. Heirlooms are handy for this.
-The raid tactic described by other comments still works to keep you from using up the mission percentage.
-The actual rares for the achieve will show up on your minimap yellow starred. They also get the grey dragon on their frame. Kill off the ones of the same name that don't have one. No need to go through transform for them, won't count toward the achieve.
-The regular mobs respawn very fast, don't kill off a bunch ahead of time, just clear around the rares, and some of the rares will still aggro pretty far out, even with your toon at 110.
-The only tricky part. As part of that clear around the rare, after you get the normals, do light controlled dps to the rare before consuming the normals to transform. Just don't take too long as the dead also do despawn fast.

I don't know what ppl are on about getting naked or dpsing down to 50% before mutating. I just did 'em while mutated while the mob is at 100%. Perhaps blizz fixed the mechanics but still made no sense why ppl would do it like they have as all the achie says it requires is a kill while in that form.

Monk note:

Rushing jade wind will stay on you - albeit invisible - after you swap to evolution form, meaning you can easily kill the mob without risking 1-shotting it trying to drop the hp before transforming.

If you transform in to the Gluttonous Giant, other mobs will come so kill them first. As you will need these to transform again and carry on the fight without resetting the mob.

Relatively easy Solo Achievement for Level 120+ and Beyond...

0. I did this spread out over a couple weeks, because I noticed not all of the mobs I needed were spawning in a single day. Not sure if it was just me or if that's the way of RNG.

1. Pick up Missive: Assault on Lost Veil Anzu from your Garrison. For Alliance the vendor is right beside where your supply crates respawn.

2. Join a Raid Group using dungeon finder, I just join one that's doing any of the world bosses that are up per week. This achievement can be done while in a raid group.

3. This is so you can attack mobs, consume, do whatever in the Lost Veil Anzu without finishing the quest.

4. Alright, so once you get to Lost Veil Anzu you need to patrol around until you see one of the rare spawns listed in the achievement. On my server group, CRZ was insane and there were usually anywhere from 3-8 people running around killing mobs at any time.

5. So what I did was I kept track of a rare spawn that was immediately killed by one of the people on CRZ or by myself. The MOMENT a rare spawn dies the timer starts: 15 Minutes Exactly.

6. Now you are set to do the achievement. You'll notice these mossy growths, static shockers, and other objects in the cave that 'evolve' you into either a large giant or a hulk type character. Usually I had to consume 3 of them to 'evolve' or I just killed a mob and 'consumed' it. This is how you transform.

7. Once your 15 minute timer gets close to the 1 minute and 30 seconds mark, you want to evolve. This is so when the Rare Spawns finally respawn you will hopefully be standing really close if not right on top of where they had died. If RNG is on your side, the rare spawn will spawn right where you are and you can easily kill it, and the ignorant CRZ people will usually one shot it for you. The point is, it was killed while you are transformed.

8. Once the rare spawn dies, start your timer for another 15 minutes, another spawn and sometimes the same spawn will respawn in exactly 15 minutes. Because you know exactly when the last rare spawn died you know exactly when the next one will respawn, and it's ALWAYS 15 minutes.

9. Rinse and Repeat until you get all the rares down while being evolved.

10. As I said above, on my first day of doing this I was only able to get 3 rare spawns, because the remaining 2 never spawned--in a period of 4 hours, so I figured I'll just come back next week. So I did, and the other 2 rare spawns finally spawned. This may have been just my terrible random luck or maybe only a certain few will spawn on certain days/hours. Fortunately the achievement keeps track of what you've killed already and you can just aim for the ones that you still need.

As you get closer to the remaining rare spawns that you still need, it's much easier simply because if the rare you are looking for did not spawn, but one you already did kill has spawned, simply run up to it and one shot it, then start your timer again for another 15 minutes.

11. Sometimes mobs would respawn around me while I was 'evolved' and I found my health going down quicker than I would have liked, this is where CRZ comes into play and usually other people will just one shot the mobs around you. If no one else is around, I did find that I would still get credit for killing a rare spawn even when my 'evolved' status died, and I one-shot the rare with a single regular ability. Not sure if intended or not but I was glad.

Soft Foam Sword
The quest area to be vacant of other players.
One friend or guild member so you can create a raid group.* (They do not need to be present with your character.)
SilverDragon (helpful, but not required).

Walkthrough:

Visit your garrison's Apexis crystal assault table. Verify that Lost Veil Anzu is not one of today's two choices.**
Purchase Scouting Missive: Lost Veil Anzu in your garrison. (Vendor: A | H )
Accept the scouting missive quest.
Fly to the quest area. If other players are in the quest area, come back later.

Once a rare spawns, hit it once with Soft Foam Sword.
With the rare still attacking you, kill the nearest ogre, goblin, or pale orc NPC. Loot it, right click to consume its corpse. Be careful not to damage the rare.
You will "evolve" into a monster with a new abilities bar. Spam the abilities to finish off the rare.
Repeat steps 8-12 with the other four rare elites.

A Note About Giga Sentinel:

Giga Sentinel will cast Self-Destruct (3-second cast) at low health, making the above method a challenge. It may be simpler to remove your weapon and punch it down to 50%, replacing step 10 above. Then continue with steps 11-12 when it's at 50%. I have not tested this yet.

Side Notes:

Do not attempt this achievement while other players are in the area. It is a waste of time. They will very likely one shot any rares before you have a chance to evolve and kill them yourself.
* Being in a raid group prevents you from completing the scouting missive quest. This is a good thing! You can only evolve while you have Amorphic Cognitor. If you complete the quest (100% progress), you can't get the debuff, and thus you can't evolve and complete the achievement. Being in a raid group stalls quest progress so you can evolve as many times as you like. As of patch 8.3, you can no longer create a raid group without another player.
** On days that Lost Veil Anzu is on the mission table, it's pretty much guaranteed there will be other players in the quest area. So don't bother.
*** If you do not receive the Amorphic Cognitor debuff, leave and re-enter the quest area until you do. It's sometimes buggy.
**** Consuming 5 corpses causes you to "evolve" into a monster. If you leave the quest area or otherwise lose the Amorphic Cognitor debuff, this count will reset.
While waiting for the next rare to spawn, you can do PvP pet battles or hunt for other nearby rares.

This achievement appears to be bugged as of Shadowlands pre-patch. The vehicle you enter to complete this achievement cannot kill anything. Enemies within the area appear friendly, with enemy nameplates. After damaging them, they evade and instantly heal.

Most of the comments on this page are out of date. The locations and spawn timers are still accurate (roughly 15 minutes between kills), but all of the needed steps to make this work with the foam sword and damaging half of the rares health before transforming aren't needed.

Simply find ogres around the rares, kill 5, loot them, then right click them again to transform, and mash buttons in the evolved state on the rare. You take 0 damage and are at no risk of dying if you are max level, and the kill credit gets granted even in a raid group. I'd still definitely recommend the raid group or else you will complete the daily quest and have to do this across multiple days. Happy hunting!

I just finished this achievement in patch 9.1. The trick with foam sword is nice but not necessary. I think the monster health scales with your gear or HP cause you don't take any dmg from those elites and it is absolutely possible to kill them just with abilities of your transformed form. Around 15 min respawn time, but it rotates between 5 of them.

If you plan on camping on all of them:

1. Go to Ogrimmar. Put your WM ON (optional, but its less people around)
2. Pick up from your garrison. Missive: Assault on Lost Veil Anzu.
3. Create Raid group. You need to be a group of two. Under your UI frame, right click it and Convert to raid. This way, you wont complete the objective to fast.
4. Camp a spot. Rotate every 15 mins. ( Sat on 74 44 covers a spawn of three).

For anyone trying to get this achievement: Enter the area from the south to get the debuff. Entering from the north side will give you the debuff and then you lose it right away.

As of 9.2.5 when attempting this achievement in a raid group I wasn't getting any achievement credit. I left the raid group and was immediately able to start getting credit towards the achievement.

This isn't hard anymore at all. The vehicles work fine, you don't need to do any foam sword trickery. Just do it on a lowpop RP server (or get yourself there by being invited through LFG tool by your own lowpop RP server level 50 alt) and it just involves waiting around for rares.

If you disco/reco while being in the quesr's zone, you won't be able to eat the ogers to complete the achievements "King of the Monsters". The fix is to go out of the zone and come back in it.

This might seem obvious but I'm doing this in DF and it's easier to get the transformation before tagging the rare. Don't tag with the foam sword then look for bodies when you can just attack as the big guy.

Just got it today, might be worth noting I killed the Gluttonous Giant (GG) while evolved as the GG and it didn't count. Next time it spawned I killed the goblins to evolve into the Shadow Hulk, and killing the Gluttonous Giant as the Shadow Hulk gave me the credit.

Interestingly, Secret Fish Goggles will cause you to lose the Amorphic Cognitor until you click the buff off. Thought I'd work on another achievement in between the 15 minutes waiting for the rares to spawn, but that was an unexpected hiccup.
